Global

The global Hunger Project was founded in 1977. It is a Non-Governmental Organization recognized by the United Nations and has consultative status on that body’s Economic and Social Council.

The Global Office is located in New York. The global board of management coordinates the strategic planning work. It is made up of a group of internationally accepted experts of finances and development, who meet for a working conference twice a year. Suzanne Mayo Frindt has been the new president and CEO of the global Hunger Project since May 2017.

The Hunger Project Switzerland

The Hunger Project Switzerland, based in Geneva, was founded in 1983. The association is non-denominational, politically neutral and, in light of its public welfare purpose, exempt from taxation. In November 2009, the Hunger Project Switzerland became ZEWO-certified and must therefore meet the ZEWO Foundation’s stringent requirements regarding the handling of donations.

The association uses its receipts to fund the programs of The Hunger Project worldwide, which are aimed at overcoming hunger and poverty in Africa, Latin America and South Asia. THP Switzerland mainly supports projects in Burkina Faso, Mozambique and India.

Volunteers

A predominant part of the worldwide activities of the Hunger Project is carried out by 385’000 volunteers, who devote their skills and their time with great commitment in their respective regions.

Working with volunteers helps to create a working atmosphere of individual responsibility, initiative and solidarity. Moreover, this contributes to keeping down the personnel costs considerably.

Quote

"For me, the Hunger Project means a continuous opportunity to feel and express the solidarity and partnership with the people who live in extreme poverty in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Over the years, huge potential has been released in me and my partners in the affected countries – resulting in sustainable improvements in the quality of life for all."
